Common Terminology Found on Food
Sell-By
When stores must sell food by. You can most-likely still eat it past this date, depending on its condition.
Freeze-By
Tells when a product should be frozen to maintain its best quality. Use your senses to determine whether you still can eat it.
Best if Used By/Before
Indicates when food will taste the best, but this date does not mean it has gone bad
Use-By
The peak quality of the food, but it depends on the food item if you can still consume it EXCEPT baby food. Baby food must not be eaten past the used-by date.
Expiration Dates By Food
Whether it is meat, dairy products, produce, or canned foods, everything expires at different time frames.
Bottom line: Use your five senses! If it smells, tastes, or looks bad, do not eat it.
