COMING SUMMER 2025 STATE STREET REVOVATION

Purpose of Renovation

The State Street Thrift Store plays a crucial role in the work of St. Vincent de Paul. The revenue from our thrift store sales directly supports every single SVdP program, making a significant impact on our ability to serve the community.

Eminent $250 million housing and retail development directly across from the store demands adaptation to meet evolving community needs. ValleyRide Bus Stops will be added along the State Street corridor in addition to the ACHD Northern Alignment Project, which is expected to significantly increase private, public, and foot traffic.

Throughout the State Street Thrift Store renovation project, our focus will be on modernizing and enhancing the building’s appeal. Implementing a new facade will attract more traffic and sales, supporting our mission. Additionally, the rebranding of the thrift store will increase awareness, enabling us to better serve those in need.

We’re excited to share the journey of transforming the State Street Thrift Store with you. Stay tuned for updates and be part of this incredible project aimed at better serving our community and upholding the mission of St. Vincent de Paul Southwest Idaho.

Project Objectives

Modernize and Enhance the Facility Update the store with a fresh facade and improved interior spaces to create a more welcoming and contemporary environment for patrons.

Better Serve the Community Strengthen the store’s ability to support St. Vincent de Paul’s programs and meet the evolving needs of the community, ensuring long-term success and well-being.

Current Condition

The SVdP State Street Thrift Store, built from the ground up in 1988 through the dedication of Vincentians, has been a beacon of hope for over three decades. Despite regular maintenance efforts such as interior and exterior painting, carpet removal, and internal wall adjustments, the facade remains untouched.

Scope & Timeline

The renovation will encompass essential enhancements across various facets of the SVdP State Street Thrift Store, focusing on critical areas to revitalize its appearance and functionality: Facade, Entrance, Customer Restrooms, Parking Lot, Interior Upgrades, Lighting, Signage, and Visibility.

On October 1, 2024, the State Street Thrift Store will relocate to its temporary space, located at 4614 W State St,  to accommodate construction, which is scheduled to begin in November. We anticipate completing construction by Summer 2025, at which point the retail operations will return to the newly renovated State Street location.

Project Budget

The State Street Remodel Project has a total budget of $2 million, funded by $1 million from store system net revenue and $1 million from a capital campaign. The SVdP Thrift Store system is essential to our organization, providing operating funds for all SVdP programs.

Built in 1988 and spanning 24,000 square feet, our building needs renovations to meet current standards. While new construction would cost over $300 per square foot, our renovation will modernize and renovate the existing space at a cost of $84 per square foot, making the $2 million budget a cost-effective solution.

Contributions to the project will support immediate remodeling needs and generate long-term funds for SVdP programs. Renovations will enhance the store, boosting sales from $1.2 million to a projected $2 million annually.

In FY2023 alone, the State Street Thrift Store provided $85,228 in vouchers and generated $1.16 million in sales, directly supporting community programs. This project ensures continual community returns and positions us as a high-end thrift store next to a $250 million development, amplifying our impact and presence.

Thank you for considering a contribution to the State Street Remodel Project. Your support will not only transform our facility but also create lasting benefits for our community. We deeply appreciate your generosity and commitment to our mission.
