At St. Vincent de Paul, we specialize in providing personalized assistance through our Home Visits. We prioritize helping individuals and families maintain stable housing situations. Through our personal approach, our Home Visitors gain a unique perspective that enables them to offer additional assistance that may be needed, like food or clothing and furniture vouchers.
Our primary focus is on preventing homelessness by providing direct assistance, including help with utility bills and rent when eviction is imminent. When individuals or families in need reach out to us through our Help Line, St. Vincent de Paul volunteers visit them in their homes to determine how we can best assist them.
By contributing to the St. John’s/St. Mary’s Conference, you’ll be offering direct financial aid and support to a local family facing hardship. Your donation makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.

St. John's Home Visitor, Shebye W.
“I went on a home visit on Saturday, December 9 and met Jasmine, an amazing woman. She is 63 years old and needed help with her rent on her apartment.
Jasmine moved to Boise from Garden Valley and has lived in her apartment since June. The apartment had been occupied by a family for 16 years and was in great disrepair. Jasmine originally bid on the cleanup and refurbishment of the apartment, which was basically uninhabitable. They offered her free rent while she was working on the apartment and eventually asked her if she would like to sign a lease.
During that time, she was working jobs just to get by: delivery for Pizza Hut, a cashier at Stinker, etc. The job she really wanted was as an aide at Ashley Manor. Because of a delay in the hiring process, she continued to work other low paying jobs. After she finished the remodel of the apartment the rent at $1,000/mo., was became her responsibility. With car repairs and the delay in hiring at Ashley Manor, she is now behind $1800. The St. John’s St. Vincent de Paul Conference was able to help her with just $150.00. She is also doing the landscape and snow shoveling for the owner of the apartment to help with the rent.
She recently got the job at Ashley Manor (night shift) and they are helping her get her Medical Technician license from CWI. She now makes $18.00 per hour and works full time.
When we walked into her apartment (part of a triplex), we noticed that it was very clean but there was a bathroom sink in the middle of the living room floor. She told us that the hot water heater died and the property owner had replaced it, but the door opening (powder room under the staircase) was too small. Jasmine then jumped into that project, reworking the opening and then planned to reinstall the sink.
Our visit with Jasmine was amazing. I have not met many people that have the attitude and gumption that she has. Faced with a bad situation, instead of crumbling, she is meeting the challenges head on. She loves her home and her job and is so thankful for those things-but her joyful outlook on life is what makes her a very special person. When I and the other Home Visitor left her apartment, we felt so blessed to have an opportunity to meet her. In the amazing work that we get to do, visiting those in distress, she definitely is one of the best visits I have had. I will not forget her.”
After sharing this story, an Anonymous Donor contributed $500 directly to help Jasmine during her time of hardship.
